Come meet our director, Judy Beckman

Judy has been directing us since early in 2010, when at her first regional competition as our director, she received Region 24's Novice Director Award.  Since that contest, Judy achieved her Sweet Adelines International Director Certification in 2012 and she has attended Sweet Adeline Directors Trainings, and numerous International competitions over her years as a Sweet Adeline.  She attends Region 13’s SET (Summer Enrichment Training) yearly, and since 2008, Judy has been both faculty and/or staff at Harmony College Northwest in Tacoma, WA.

Judy has been a Sweet Adeline most of her life, beginning at the age of twelve when her music teacher asked her and some friends if they'd like to try quartetting.  That was all it took.  She was hooked!
Judy has been a Sweet Adeline most of her life, beginning at the age of twelve when her music teacher asked her and some friends if they'd like to try quartetting.  That was all it took.  She was hooked!  The quartet, the Tonka Tones, sang together for six years and before they each went their own way for college.

After relocating to the Pacific Northwest, in 2005, she joined Harmony of the Gorge chorus, known at that time as Hood River Valley Sweet Adelines Chorus.  Within weeks, she was not only contributing with her magnificent bass voice, but also with emcee spots for performances.  She soon added “note taking” during rehearsals and coaching sessions and emailed them to the chorus members.
Judy has become not only the voice, but the face of Sweet Adelines in the Gorge.  She’s regularly on morning radio talk shows in the area and she represents the chorus at the various Chambers of Commerce meetings in our various communities.  She seldom misses opportunities to share her love of barbershop harmony and the chorus wherever she goes, whether it be the bank, coffee shop, or grocery store.

If you'd like to learn more about our chorus,
do not hesitate to email Judy.
CHORUS NOTES FROM JUDY:
Monday 6/26
So, our next performances will all be on Tuesday, July 4th, at the morning Hood River Parade (10pm), followed by the 1pm parade in White Salmon, followed by the 2pm Salute To Veterans in Rheingarten Park in White Salmon.
The songs we'll be singing will be from the following list.  I won't know for sure the number of songs until I'm back but it could be any of these songs:
Star Spangled Banner (unlikely to sing this since we're not number one on the program)
This Land is Your Land
Roll On, Columbia
Let There be Peace on Earth
God Bless the U.S.A.
Armed Forces Medley
God Bless the USA

And, of course, we'll once again be singing God Bless America along the parade routes.
